The 2nd Ward Democrats endorse Erika Almiron for City Council At-Large. The daughter of South American immigrants, Almiron has been a champion of public schools, immigrant rights, public safety, and reproductive healthcare here in Philadelphia. Throughout her career as a professional and an activist, Erika Almiron has been a leader in the Immigrant Rights Movement and built campaigns to address systemic barriers to health and safety for Philadelphians. Almiron successfully pushed the City of Philadelphia to end its cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and was a leader in the movement to shut down an immigrant detention center in Berks County. Her work has helped put Philadelphia on the map as a Sanctuary City. As a councilmember, Almiron will continue to fight for the 2nd Ward’s vision of inclusion, safe schools, and thriving communities.
